Some Weekend Art...and Another Rule!!

Whenever we pack up to head away for getaways, I always, always take my art supplies with me. The problem is that I can't possibly take all of my supplies with me...sometimes it is a lot of fun making art with only a few supplies, and that is just what I did this weekend.

I took along my small watercolor set, a few Inktense pencils, a few bits of paper, a glue stick, a graphite crayon, and some copic markers that I got....

Talk about fun! This was great as I only had a few stolen moments to actually get some art done, so there was no way that I could manage paints, and all the "Stuff" that I usually bring. I was surprised that I got so much done...limited supplies makes you create with what you have...so it was a challenge in itself.
I also created Rule 2 for myself...
Take some time to Relax...Breathe...
I find that I am often so busy going from here to there, that I never ever take time to slow down and pay attention to the little things around me. I never pay attention to details, and I find that that is usually what is missing in my journals. I jump in, create the page, and quickly move on to the next one...without even adding details...doodles, scribbles, etc. And I remember reading on someone's blog about adding doodles, shading, etc....and I thought how weird it was that I had never done that in my own journals....I shall give it a try....
Until next time,
Ophelia

I had to teach myself to slow down and doodle, too. I want to learn how to doodle to add texture and shading to something. I saw some of this online somewhere, where she took a photo from a magazine, and doodled completely over it. The doodles themselves made the shading of the face and wrinkles. It was so cool, I loved it. Now to actually try it! Someday...

What a great reminder. Actually many great reminders... simplifying, slowing down, taking time to look around, and you came away with great pages.
Thank you for sharing.

Wonderful pages and a wonderful new rule! Once I start a page I rarely go back to it, I like to finish it in one sitting, so I will look back and do some doodling!

Sounds great Ophelia!

great pages Ophelia. I find I create the main part of the page, and come back to it multiple times and add to them - sometimes even months later.

Love your pages. I am a firm believer of less is more when traveling. I always limit myself, and some of my best art has come as a result of this gentle lesson. Your pages are all fab. I can see you had great success.

I'll remember that next time I'm away from home ..it's the same principle I use when I challenge myself to work only from my scraps!
