Why is this so Terrifying?????

It's only a canvas, right....so you say...but gosh, what is it about working on a canvas that drives me to a sleepless state!

So...here is where I am so far.....I think I got a bit too carried away on the gel medium stuff...but I wanted to try some texture...which I over did.
I peeled off the wrapper on yesterday and started....and this thing has haunted me since then. I so envisioned myself being free.....you know, putting on some rockin' music and creating something....um....fabulous....well, that didn't happen. At least not in this try! But, there are others of its kind sitting in my studio....the wrapper on tight...calling me to give them a try....and I will....one day.
Until next time,
Ophelia

Oh ophelia, you should just let yourself go and create with your heart, not your mind!

feel your way through your work, and your work will evoke more feeling in your onlookers! trust me!

this is great! work with it until you like what you see!

Ophelia, I really like this beginning! (Of course, these are "my" colors.) A trick I do sometimes if I'm stuck is to turn the canvas upside down ... look at it with the drips going up from the bottom, or across from the side ... just to see what it triggers in your mind. Have fun!

You know, I do this all the time, and I know what you mean, but just be patient--it will evolve!!

well, i think what you've got here is a case of having made something that doesn't match the picture that was in your head, that's all. :) 'cause from where i'm lookin' at it...this *IS* fabulous!!! completely & totally fabulous!

i love the color, i love the texture, i love the energy. if it turns out this is just the FIRST LAYER of something even MORE fabulous...i am fully prepared to love it in future, too! :)

anything NEW is always terrifying...but really, this isn't new, it's just got a different & completely meaningless LABEL on it! this is really just a BIG sturdy journal page...that's reinforced with wood and fabric...that will take as many layers of paint and texture and paper and ideas and gel medium and glitter and well, *EVERYTHING*...that you want to throw at it, and never warp or rip or stick to anything else!

have you read bruce mau's "incomplete manifesto for growth"? i've been thinking and talking about it since january and HONESTLY it's one of the most powerful things i've ever read! point #6 is one of my faves: "The wrong answer is the right answer in search of a different question. Collect wrong answers as part of the process. Ask different questions." (the whole manifesto is HERE if you're interested. it definitely puts art...and life...into a different perspective. (for me, anyway!)

just keep going...and you will *SEE* the fabulousness, i promise! ♥

Ha ha I totally know what you mean! A canvas can be scary, but the funny thing is, a journal page scares me more! LOL! I think it it's the paper. So foreign to me. :)

Looks like you are off to a great start though, and I love the color and the drips you got going on. Keep it up!

One thing I'm learning is to keep covering your "mistakes" and eventually you will come out with something you like. If anything all those layers add texture and depth right?

P.S. thanks for stopping by and for the lovely comment! :)
